Frequently asked questions - HACCP Certification
HACCP, which stands for “Hazards Analysis Critical Control Points”, is a system that identifies, monitors and manages food safety risks through the entire cycle of food production.
According to the FDA, “HACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product.
Agencies such as the FDA and USDA, along with local health and safety agencies, enforce strict guidelines for all stages of food production, from the farm all the way to the consumers plate.
HACCP stands for Hazards Analysis Critical Control Points.
HACCP certification is granted by an external certification authority(IACET and/or International HACCP Alliance) that has the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake an assessment of the HACCP system or HACCP plan.
The two primary accreditation bodies are IACET and International HACCP Alliance – training and certification classes can be completed through their registered partners(we’ve done the research for you!)
If you are a food manufacturer whose goal is to be sold through grocery stores, you’ll need a Hazards Analysis Critical Control Plan.
If you are a contract manufacturer looking to work with major food brands like General Mills or Nestle or Kraft Heinz, you will need a Hazards Analysis Critical Control Plan.
A Hazards Analysis Critical Control Plan is not required by law(see HARPC), but it is a critical and globally recognized system for compliance with most if not all GFSI schemes.
